Seraglio is a traditional 18th Century cottage built of Blue Lias Stone which for centuries, has been mined in Keinton Mandeville. When Mike and Louise first viewed the property in 2018 they knew that it would be their forever home. They have undertaken a full ''Back to Stone'' restoration including full rewire, new heating system, full internal replaster with breathable lime plaster and addition of a modern Kitchen/Dining Room extension. There is still lots to do.

The plot on which Seraglio now stands can be traced as far back as 1754 when it was knows as Sugerloaf Cottage. In 1773, Obadiah Green sold Sugerloaf Cottage to a local Stonemason, John Higgins, who then built adjoined houses which he left in his will to his 2 Daughters in 1787. In early Victorian times, the 2 houses were jointed and an animal byre to the rear was incorporated into the living space. More recently, the house underwent a complete renovation in the 1970s with several extensions added. Much of this work was un-sympathetic and by the time Mike and Louise bought it in 2018 the house was in a poor state of repair and required considerable renovation.

Much of the plaster in the downstairs spaces contained non-licensed asbestos. After suitable training and preparation, we safely removed this ourselves and hired a licenced waste contractor to safely dispose of it

Full back to stone preparation including removal of all old stud walls, wall plaster, ceilings and floor structures and all heating, plumbing and wiring

Removed stone wall separating downstairs reception rooms and inserted a solid oak beam, making one large living room.

Remodelled the upstairs including a full attic conversion to give 4 double en-suite bedrooms on the first and second floors

Demolished the existing lean-too kitchen and built a large Kitchen Dining Room

Extensive landscaping of the plot which extends to approximately third of an acre. Included digging groundworks and soakaways, building a large Koi Pond, reclaimed Victorian timber Green House and a large stone Shed
